About The Ravenswood Mansion Wedding Venue

Built in 1830, Ravenswood Mansion has a rich (albeit not always pretty) history as a southern plantation. It exchanged hands several times over the past nearly two centuries, but in 2010, the expansive property was sold to the City Commission, and they agreed to preserve both the mansion and the property for future generations.

The entire mansion has undergone renovations to reflect the home’s beauty in its glory days while providing all the modern amenities needed to host a beautiful event in the modern era.

Details of the Grounds

There are many ways to utilize the beautiful Ravenswood Mansion and property for an unforgettable wedding.

Their spacious changing suites possess beautiful antique and vintage furniture, mirrors, and natural light for those must-have getting-ready photos.

When it comes to a Ravenswood Mansion wedding, you’ll need to plan on almost everything taking place outdoors. The Mansion is divided into smaller rooms, making it challenging to accommodate large groups. However, you can host a seated dinner for up to 80 people indoors (with people split into different rooms), but an indoor ceremony would be limited to only 40.

Outdoors, however, the property can comfortably accommodate up to 250 people! You can opt to have your ceremony on the mansion’s front steps with the grand front entrance as your backdrop or set up an arch in the nearby circle driveway. The Front Field positions your ceremony opposite the house so you can say “I do” in front of the rolling green lawn and big historic trees. Or exchange vows in the Back Field with pastoral rolling hills and rustic structures setting the scene.

For your reception, you can rent a tent on their large patio, with plenty of space for guests to dine and dance all night. You’ll need to rent a tent through a third-party vendor, but they have plenty of recommendations. And we’re not just talking about a plain white tent – these tents are the perfect canvas for a beautiful wedding uniquely you and your partner. The tent brings the natural beauty of the estate into your sheltered celebration.

Photography Opportunities

As a part of Marcella Vivrette Smith Park, Ravenswood Mansion provides access to over 400 acres for spectacular photos. That isn’t to say we’ll be able to take advantage of all of them, but we’ll have plenty of opportunities to wander the park and find the most beautiful spots for some incredible and romantic outdoor photos.

The Mansion itself makes for some gorgeous portrait backdrops, too; whether we’re inside and using the vintage decor for more formal shots or even using the brick exterior and covered porches for pics, there are so, so many incredible photos we can take that you’ll be able to treasure forever!

There are a few things to keep in mind about a Ravenswood Mansion wedding. You must use a professional event planner (although you get to choose who you work with!), you’ll need to hire ABC-licensed bartenders to serve your alcohol, and unless you have rented the space the day before your wedding, your rehearsal will need to be the day of your wedding. Additionally, there are cleaning fees, and you’ll need to provide your own event insurance. However, these are all the transparencies – they shouldn’t stop you from strongly considering Ravenswood Mansion as your wedding venue!
